Ayumi Hamasaki's tenth full-length studio album, NEXT LEVEL, was released on 25 March 2009. The album is available in four formats — CD-only, CD/DVD, two CDs+DVD, and USB. The DVD has promotional videos for six of the songs on the album, along with their making-of videos. The second CD is a recording from her PREMIUM COUNTDOWN LIVE 2007-2008 A concert held on 31 December 2008. The USB version is a 2GB USB flash drive that has the songs in MP3 format, a PDF of the album's booklet, and the music videos in MP4 format.

The album's singles are GREEN/Days and Rule/Sparkle. "GREEN," "Sparkle," and "NEXT LEVEL" were all used in Japanese promotions, while "Rule" was used internationally as the theme song for the film Dragonball Evolution.
